I celebrated Christmas 2022 in Warsaw, Poland.

Yes, of course, I am alone.

Warsaw is a city that disappeared during World War II and was rebuilt.

I summarize the bus transportation from Warsaw Chopin Airport to downtown Warsaw in this article.

The bus is the Best (from the airport to the city of Warsaw)🚌

About 40 minutes

It is convenient to take a bus from Warsaw Chopin Airport to downtown Warsaw.

It is not a shuttle but a regular bus, so you can get off at a bus station near your hotel if it is along the route.

Bus stop at the airport

There is a "Bus stop" a short walk outside the airport.

I took the 148 bus but you can check which number you should take.

There are signs inside the airport, so watch for them as you walk out.

You can also take a cab, but it will take about 30 to 40 minutes to get downtown so probably cost quite a bit of money.

Buses cost about just 4 złoty (about 1$)(1way ticket), so I think buses are much more economical.

Buy the ticket at the station or on the Bus

You can buy the ticket from ticket vending machines around the area before boarding the bus, or from ticket vending machines on the bus.

(I've never seen one inside a bus before...).

In other words, you can get on the bus without a ticket, and in the worst-case scenario, if you are not found, you can get on the bus without paying.

However, if you are found by the inspector, you have to pay. I don't know how much money should we pay though.  (This system seems to be the same everywhere in Europe.)

You can also pay by card at the ticket machines on the train, so there is no need to carry cash (Poland's currency is złoty).

Even if you exchange cash, you don't need to exchange it in a hurry at the airport. The exchange rate is not good.

Also, I didn't need the cash even once on this trip, so one card might be enough.

If you don't want to have too much cash while traveling, "Revolut" is a great option.

It is a debit card that allows you to exchange foreign currency for the amount you need right on the spot and pay as you go.

Purchase tickets according to your travel schedule

Tickets vary from single tickets, 24-hour tickets, 3-day tickets, etc.

If you plan to visit a lot from the time you arrive at your hotel to the next day, it is easier to buy a "24-hour ticket" at this point.

With this ticket, you can take all the trams, buses, and metro lines in Warsaw. This is extremely convenient.

I bought a "24-hour ticket (1 zone)".  It costs about 14 złoty (about 4$).

Prices may change, so check before you buy.

What are the "Zone 1" and "Zone 2"

When you buy a ticket, there are two types of tickets: "Zone 1" only" and "Zone 1 + 2".

The central part of Warsaw is "Zone 1" and the outer part is "Zone 2".

It is enough "Zone 1" ticket

As you know to see the picture, all the basic tourist attractions are included in "Zone 1", so unless you have a lot of time to spare or want to visit places outside of "Zone 1", a "Zone 1" only ticket is sufficient.

If you want to go out a little farther, "Omio" is convenient.
You can compare the time and cost of trains, buses, and airplanes for travel within Europe.

End

I wrote about how to get from Warsaw airport to the city center.

The number of tourists seems to be increasing, and the era of travel is coming back.
