”Arrived in Pristina, Kosovo!🇽🇰 Are there any good, inexpensive restaurants?"
"I want to go to a local restaurant."
In this article, I will introduce the restaurants I visited during my sightseeing in Pristina, Kosovo, as well as restaurants introduced to me by travelers I met at the hostel and by the hostel owner.
Small, cozy restaurant not listed in tourist books
First, let me introduce some of the restaurants and cafes I visited during my trip.
Probably none of them are listed in tourist books, and they are small and cozy.
Cheap!Tasty!Hamburger【Riga's Burger】
On the first night, since I arrived late at night, I went for a walk near the hostel and I found "Riga's Burger".
I ordered one cheeseburger for 1.8 €.
If there was no cheese, the price started at 1.5 €.
By the way, the currency in Kosovo is "Euro"! 💶That was another surprise.
But the size is about twice as big as a MacDonald's. They also put a salad on top, and you can arrange the salsa sauce and spicy sauce to your liking.
They also bake the bread right before serving, which is soooo good.
Also, as you can realize by walking around town, the so-called fast food in Kosovo that is like hamburgers🍔, sandwiches🥪, pizza🍕, and kebabs🥙.
The more you go to the center of the city, the more expensive it is. The hamburger shops and kebabs in this area, which are far from the city, are quite affordable.
Please take a walk around this area and check out the map.
A secluded cafe next to a park【INNA】
Kosovo🇽🇰 is one of those countries that is so famous for coffee☕️ that it is impossible to walk the streets of Kosovo without seeing a café.
The more you walk, the more cafes you will see.
Among them, I visited the "INNA Cafe" this time.
I am not very good at walking in the center of the city or in crowded places, so I walked around looking for a café that was a little far away from the city and that did not seem to have many tourists. I found this café.
It faces the park next door, so you can enjoy a cup of coffee on the rooftop, and there are chairs and tables on the grounds of the park.
It is a local cafe where there seem to be no tourists, and I was very relaxed.
There seem to be three similar cafes and snack shops next to this store, so if you want to enjoy real coffee in a quieter place, this is the place for you.
The prices seem a bit high, but the staff is very friendly (maybe family-run?) and the place is very comfortable. The coziness was also very nice. It was a happy time.
In Kosovo Prishtina, there are not many old-fashioned coffee shops, but all of them are newer, glass-fronted, rooftop, or very clean places where you can drink outside. (Maybe because they just became independent?).
That said, you can enjoy any cafe with a modern atmosphere!
Authentic Seafood【Sfish】(not even on Google Map)
A normal search for "Kosovo cuisine" doesn't turn up anything, and Google Maps doesn't show much of it either.
I am not sure if it is because the city just became independent in 2008, or for some other reason, but I felt that I did not see many local restaurants or local cuisine restaurants.
So I decided to have my last dinner at a seafood restaurant "Sfish" that I came across while walking around town.
This time I ordered the seafood pasta with shrimp!
Shrimp, shellfish, and fish paste. Tossed with a slightly sour sauce, it's good!
Reasonably price
This is a place where you can enjoy authentic seafood at a relatively affordable price.
It is also a place where you can buy fish as it is, so you can be sure of its freshness. It will be interesting to buy fish and cook it at the hostel. Is the smell a bit strong?
I guess only really local people come to this place...a search on Google Maps doesn't show this location.
The map below is also just a guide. Please take a short walk around the point to find it.
Approximate fast food prices(0.8€ - 1.5€)
If you want to save even more money, then fast food is the way to go. It's inexpensive, you can eat your way through it, and the portions are generous.
I would say that "hamburgers" (1,50€), "sandwiches" (1.50€), and "hot dogs" (0.80€) in this area are a rough guide to fast food.
Good Restaurant where travelers and the hostel owner recommended me
I couldn't go there this time, but I'd like to introduce some restaurants where travelers who shared a room with me and the owner of the hostel recommended me.
Hideout Turkish Cuisine【Restoran Aga】
Turkish food culture seems to have entered Kosovo quite well.
”Resoran Aga” was introduced by a Turkish traveler who was staying in the same room, and although it is a little hard to find, it offers authentic Turkish cuisine at a reasonable price.
Super stylish restaurant「BOHO」
This restaurant is quite romantic from the entrance, as you can see in the picture. It is called "BOHO."
The hostel owner strongly recommended it to me as a "definite" restaurant, and it is a bit cheerful with music echoing outside.
I thought it is hard to enter by one person but if you are a friend, a couple, or a couple, you should definitely go here.
A little luxury local food【Shpija e Vjetër】
"Shpija e Vjetër" is recommended by the hostel owner.
This is another restaurant that is not easy to enter alone, but it is recommended for its good atmosphere and taste!
Authentic Mediterranean Cuisine【Gagi Restaurant】
”Gagi Restaurant” offers authentic Mediterranean cuisine.
This restaurant was introduced by a couple we met during our trip. Apparently, they were a rich couple...
The cozy and homey restaurant was standing there, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Hostel I stayed at is super!【Prishtina Backpackers】
「Prishtina Backpackers」I stayed this time.
It looks like it was just built in December 2022 and is quite clean, including the front desk, balcony, rooms, lockers, and bathrooms.
This is definitely one of the best and most comfortable hostels I have ever stayed in.
The young man who owns the hostel is extremely friendly and helpful. (He even offered to share his beer and local liquor with us).
I highly recommend this hostel.
End...
Thank you for reading this far.
On this trip, we visited four countries: Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Bulgaria. Personally, Kosovo is the best.
The reason is that it is a compact city with beautiful streets, history, and delicious restaurants and cafes.
It has truly become one of my favorite countries.
