Skopje to Sofia by Bus (about Ticket, Terminal, Notes)
I would like to introduce how to travel by bus from Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia🇲🇰, located on the Balkan Peninsula in Eastern Europe, to Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria🇧🇬. The Balkan Peninsula is not a Schengen country, with the exception of Greece, so passport formalities are required at all borders, but bus transportation is very convenient. Based on my experience, I would like to summarize how to buy bus tickets, travel time, and points to note. About 2 hours, 8.5€ by Bus to Skopje
From Kosovo Pristina🇽🇰 to Skopje, North Macedonia🇲🇰, it takes about 2 hours by bus (depending on the procedure time at the border).
The cost is 8.5€ per person.
You can go to the neighboring country as if you were going to the next city.
The bus I took this time is
- 11:30ーLeave rom Pristina🇽🇰
- 13:30ーArrival in Skopje🇲🇰
When crossing the border, we got off the bus and walked.
The border crossing time varies depending on the number of passengers, but it was very smooth, just showing your passport. (At my time, there were about 10 passengers)
Now, let's take a look at how to buy tickets specifically.
バスチケットの買い方
- Online
- At the counter in the Bus Terminal
- In the Bus
Tickets can be purchased by either of these methods. (8.5 euros)
However, it is safest to purchase at the counter and have the ticket properly in hand.
The official language in Kosovo is Albanian.
Not many people, including the driver, speak English, so you do not want to have unnecessary problems such as not being able to issue tickets online properly or not being able to smoothly exchange money in the car.
First, should check the time schedule online
Enter the date, time, and destination on this website and you will see the time schedule.
Depending on the time schedule, you can also buy tickets online here.
Buy at the Bus Terminal Counter

Bus Terminal at Kosovo🇽🇰
If you buy the ticket at the counter, go to the bus terminal here first. (City buses are convenient. One one-way ticket costs 50 cents.)
Tell them the name of your destination, and they will verbally tell you the time of the next bus and the bus stop, as well as purchase the ticket.
There is no particular bulletin board, so you have to get them properly here.
Payment is cash only. Be prepared to have Euros ready.
(Why do they use euros in Kosovo?)

I got the ticket at the counter!
After receiving the ticket, you just go to the bus stop number I was told to go to.
You might say, "Well, it's overseas, so I might be a little late."
No, we departed "on time", so come a little early in case you have to wait in line at the counter.

Time Schedule
Buses are quite frequent.
Buses leave at 6:30-, 7:25-, 11:30-, 15:00-, 17:00-, and 18:00-.(Please do not forget to check here in advance, as they may change at any time of the year depending on the season).
Pay on the Bus
I had thought "I definitely had to buy my ticket!" but I was surprised to see that most people, except me, paid in the car.
It was more like paying 8.5€ on the bus not buying a ticket.
I think you can go straight to the bus station if you have no time.
Border crossing time depends on "Luck".
You need to do two border crossing processes, leaving Kosovo🇽🇰 and entering North Macedonia🇲🇰.
This depends on the number of border-crossing vehicles and the number of people on the bus at that time.
When I crossed the border from Albania🇦🇱 to Kosovo🇽🇰, the police came on the bus, collected everyone's passports and ID cards, and returned them all together a few minutes later. (You can check here.)
As for "Kosovo🇽🇰 → North Macedonia🇲🇰," we had to get off the bus at the departure gate, go through the immigration procedures on foot, get on the bus again, go 100 meters, get off the bus again, go through the immigration procedures, and when all the passengers had finished passing, get back on the bus and leave.
So the more passengers there are, the longer you should wait outside.
The whole trip takes roughly two hours, but there are no stops along the way, so be sure to use the restroom and get some snacks beforehand.
All you need to do is make sure you have your passport in order.
Kosovo is a new country that became independent in 2008. (Some countries still do not recognize its independence).
In particular, "Serbia🇷🇸" has not yet recognized the independence of "Kosovo🇽🇰" (claiming that it is the territory of the same country).
Therefore, there is information that, for example, if you have an entry stamp of "Kosovo🇽🇰", you will be denied entry to "Serbia🇷🇸". The reverse is also true.
Crossing the border itself is not a problem, but you should keep in mind that the "Kosovo entry stamp" carries such a risk.

Tirana to Pristina by Bus

This is the information about the bus terminal, how to get there, and bus conditions. And enjoy your trip!🚌 About 4 hours from Tirana The bus terminal in Tirana. There are many buses and bus companies. The bus terminal in Tirana is not a particularly large building, but simply a place where buses and wagons are lined up in a slightly spacious parking lot. Arrive at Skopje!🇲🇰

Skopje Bus Terminal
Several cab drivers were waiting for us at the bus drop-off, and they asked us, "Taxi? Taxi?"
I was a bit taken aback from the very beginning.
Our trip to "North Macedonia," a unique country with a different flavor from Kosovo, has just begun.
